Mission Statement

Twenty years ago Homeschooling Today magazine was founded by homeschooling parents with a vision to encourage and assist homeschooling families. Today, that vision continues as we focus on providing information and tools for those who homeschool, shared from a Christian perspective. The magazine doesn’t just offer encouragement but also ready-to-use lessons and activities for anyone who wants to expand the educational experience of their children, while keeping the approach to learning natural. Our goal is to help parents create an environment "Where The Love of Learning Takes Root".
"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." – Colossians 2: 6-8

Our Team

AlexAndAshleyBio Alex Wiggers, leader of the publishing team of Homeschooling Today, is husband to Ashley, and Creative Director for Geography Matters. Raised as part of the family business, Alex grew on the homeschool convention scene, learning the business and ministry aspects of the homeschooling life from parents Josh and Cindy Wiggers. Today, he and Ashley travel to homeschool conventions across the country representing Geography Matters, continuing the family legacy. Ashley Wiggers speaks at homeschool seminars, serves as Public Relations Director for Geography Matters and is the author of the Profiles from History series. She also joins Homeschooling Today Magazine as an Executive Editor. Both Alex and Ashley grew up in the early days of the homeschooling movement. Alex was taught by parents, Josh and Cindy Wiggers, who are the owners and operators of the publishing company Geography Matters. Ashley was taught by parents, Greg and Debbie Strayer, who are authors of numerous homeschooling materials and part of the founding group of Homeschooling Today Magazine. As homeschool graduates, Alex and Ashley have a deep appreciation for the opportunity to homeschool and the need for encouragement and support of homeschooling families. The Wiggers make their home in Somerset, KY, and look forward to continuing the homeschool philosophies and ideals that their parents and in-laws have passed on with their own children. DebbieBioPic In Memoriam: Debbie Strayer was the co-founder of Homeschooling Today magazine. We will always be grateful for her guidance and encouragement. This magazine would not have existed without her determination and passion. Debbie became a part of the homeschooling movement in 1988 when she and husband Greg began their journey as homeschoolers. Prior to that time, Debbie received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in education. Debbie always felt that her most important accomplishments were that she was the wife of Greg Strayer for 35 years, the mother of homeschool graduates Nate and Ashley and a homeschooling parent for 16 years. Here are a few of her accomplishments:
  • Co-founder and an Executive Editor
  • of Homeschooling Today (TM) Magazine
  • Author, Gaining Confidence to Teach
  • Editor, The Homeschool Answer Book by Dr. Ruth Beechick
  • A co-author of the Learning Language Arts through Literature series
  • Co-author, Trail Guide to Learning, published by Geography Matters
